B&B's in the Sassi of Matera

If you fancy a relaxing weekend or a short trip dedicated to art and history, why not choose a bed & breakfast in Matera? The apartments located in the Sassi districts are comfortable and allow you to sleep over in a fascinating place rich in history and still "out of this world". Many of the bed & breakfasts have rooms carved out of the rock where you will be welcomed by the owners in a typical warm southern italian manner! These typical structures built above a series of prehistoric caves cut from the rock face were inhabited by entire peasant families and then modified through the centuries according to their needs. Recently, necessary renovations turned these historic buildings into affordable B&B's. Very often, former tanks and wide networks of rivulates for the rainwaters are to see.
